James Guy

James Guy has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. James is currently serving as the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and General Counsel at Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. In this role, they ensure the provision of low-cost and reliable electric power and energy to member cooperatives in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado.

Previously, James worked as an Attorney at the Deacon Law Group PLLC, where they provided legal counsel to energy clients on various regulatory and litigation matters. James also has extensive experience in natural gas and electric rate restructuring, certification, and compliance proceedings before regulatory agencies such as the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Prior to their role at Deacon Law Group PLLC, James was a Partner in Charge at Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP, where they managed the firm's operations in Austin. James also worked as an Attorney at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, where they gained valuable experience in legal matters.

Before entering the legal field, James worked at Nestle Waters North America as a Quality Control Manager and Production Supervisor, further diversifying their skillset.

Through their extensive experience and knowledge in the energy industry, James has developed a strong foundation in legal, regulatory, and compliance matters, enabling him to effectively serve in their current role at Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc.

James Guy received their JD degree in Law from The University of Texas School of Law, where they studied from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, where they attended from 1989 to 1994. James completed their high school education at Andrews High School from 1985 to 1989, though no specific degree or field of study was mentioned.
