James Leonard, CFA has a diverse and extensive work experience. James started their career as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps from 1992 to 1999. James then worked as an Interest Rate Swap Trader at Bank of America from 2000 to 2005, where they managed their own trading book with positive annual profits. James later joined Refco Trading Services as a Trader for a brief period in 2005 before transitioning to Wachovia Securities as a Vice President from 2005 to 2007.
Their next role was at Deerfield Capital Management, where they served as a Senior Vice President from 2007 to 2011. In this role, they were responsible for credit analysis of financial institutions and aerospace/defense industries. James also acted as a Portfolio Manager for several CDOs and CLOs.
In 2011, James joined Morningstar as a Senior Credit Analyst, where they analyzed and evaluated credit risks for various financial institutions. James then moved to Monroe Capital in 2013, working as a Vice President until 2014.
Currently, James holds the position of Senior Director and Portfolio Manager at Golub Capital since 2014. James manages portfolios of high-quality, senior secured loans primarily through CLOs and Separately Managed Accounts. Golub Capital emphasizes a selective and disciplined approach to credit selection and monitoring.

James Leonard, CFA, obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Finance, General from DePaul University in 1992. James then pursued further education and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Financial Management and Econometrics/Statistics from the University of Chicago between 1999 and 2001.
