Wen-Sheng Chu is a highly accomplished Senior Staff Research Scientist and Manager at Google since August 2018, leading a team focused on AI/ML/CV techniques for mobile device sensors, notably contributing to the Face Unlock feature on Pixel phones. Previously, at Apple as a Deep Learning Scientist from February 2017 to July 2018, Wen-Sheng developed on-device vision techniques and played a key role in releasing Face ID on iPhone X. During academic pursuits at Carnegie Mellon University from 2010 to 2017, Wen-Sheng completed a PhD in Computer Science, led the development of award-winning automated face analysis software IntraFace, and contributed to significant research in temporal pattern discovery and circle detection. Earlier experience includes research internships at Yahoo and a research assistant position at Academia Sinica in Taiwan, focusing on gender classification and image co-segmentation techniques.
