Peter Zhao

Peter Zhao is an accomplished optical engineer with extensive experience in optics design and development across various companies. Currently, as Principal Optical Engineer at GoPro since January 2018, Peter co-leads the design of miniature wide-angle camera lenses for flagship products such as HERO 8 BLACK and MAX. Prior roles include Principal Optical Engineer at Theranos, where Peter worked on innovative optical systems for cytometers, and Staff Optical Engineer at Ultratech, addressing critical challenges in lithographic projection lens technology. Peter contributed to the success of Pacific Biosciences' first single-molecule DNA sequencing instrument while serving as Staff Optical Design Engineer and played a significant role as Sr. Optical Design Engineer at Canesta, developing a virtual keyboard optical system for mobile devices. Early career experience includes positions at Agilent Technologies and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Peter holds a PhD in Optics and Photonics from the University of Paris XI.
