Derek Finnegan is an accomplished public servant with extensive experience in various leadership roles within the Irish government. Currently serving as Assistant Principal in the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform since June 2022, Derek previously held a similar position in the Department of Health from December 2017, where responsibilities included overseeing the Parliamentary Affairs Unit and the Nursing & Midwifery Policy Unit. Prior to that, Derek worked as a Higher Executive Officer in both the Department of Health and Children, managing the Parliamentary function and serving as Private Secretary to the Secretary General. Additional experience includes serving as a Senior Investigator at the Financial Services Ombudsman's Bureau and supporting services for older people in the Department of Health & Children. Derek's educational background includes studies at the Waterford Institute of Technology from 1990 to 1993.
