Environmental Assistant

Gowan Milling Yuma is looking for an Environmental Assistant. This position will report to the Environmental Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsibilities of Environmental Assistant to include but not limited to the following:
• Prioritizing waste collection and processing operations from each production unit.
• Proficiency in proper waste labeling, housekeeping or any number of jobs other than what is described in this basic classification.
• Operating horizontal and vertical balers, forklifts and other equipment not listed.
• Participate in weekly safety meetings and promote a safe working environment that aligns with Gowan Milling’s goals.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Qualifications of Environmental Assistant to include but not limited to the following:
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment when required which would include but not limited to; half face respirator, full face respirator, Tyvek, grounding straps, eye protection.
• Bilingual preferred
• Capable of following written and verbal work instructions.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment when required which would include but not limited to; half face respirator, full face respirator, Tyvek, grounding straps, eye protection
• Possess a working knowledge of math and communication skills it pertains to assigned tasks.
• Strong people skills and an ability and willingness to interact with all levels of management and staff.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities and work independently.
• Possess a working knowledge of current company policy regarding safety, environmental and quality systems.
• Willingness to complete initial RCRA training with annual RCRA refresher if requested by department manager.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to operate forklifts for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to ascend/descend stairs in buildings.
• Requires ability to lift items up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, pulling, and pushing.
• Ability to work outdoors throughout the year in extreme temperatures.
