Steven Zimmerman

Steven Zimmerman, CIA, has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Steven started their professional career as a Research Assistant at Cleveland State University, where they conducted genetics research and documented results.

In 2013, Steven worked as a Planning Intern at the Cleveland City Planning Commission, gaining experience in urban planning. Steven then joined the Greater Cleveland RTA as a Transportation Planning Intern, where they conducted analysis using GIS and statistical methods to identify transit ridership patterns. Steven also developed grant applications and completed GIS and data analysis for Title VI plan updates.

Steven's career progressed within the Greater Cleveland RTA, starting as a Staff Auditor. Steven executed assurance and consulting engagements, conducted risk assessments, and investigated fraud, waste, and abuse cases. As Lead Auditor, they supervised audit staff, conducted training, and performed quality assurance. Steven also led complex audit engagements, drafted audit reports, and communicated issues and recommendations to management and the Board of Trustees.

During their time at the RTA, Steven also completed a two-year Management Development Program, gaining exposure to various departments and projects in public transit operations and business administration. Steven worked on contract and operations auditing, ITS administration, rail operations training, and front-line supervision, among other responsibilities.

In 2014, Steven held roles as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant at Rutgers University and a Transportation Planning Intern at the Regional Plan Association. At Rutgers, they assisted students in graduate-level statistics and conducted transportation network simulation modeling. At the Regional Plan Association, they co-authored an analytical research report, managed advocacy and outreach efforts, and assisted in planning the association's Regional Assembly.

With their educational background and extensive experience in transportation planning, audit, and management, Steven Zimmerman, CIA, has developed a strong skill set that encompasses data analysis, strategic planning, project management, and effective communication.

Steven Zimmerman, CIA, began their education in 2009 at Cleveland State University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology. During their four-year tenure, they also undertook minors in Chemistry and Urban Studies. In 2013, they continued their academic journey at Rutgers University, earning a Master of City and Regional Planning degree with a concentration in Transportation Policy and Planning. In January 2020, Zimmerman obtained their Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification from The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc.
