Alan Smithies

Alan Smithies is a Principal Strategic Planner at the Greater London Authority since May 2018, serving as the policy lead for the London Plan's design and heritage-related policies. Previously, Alan held positions such as Senior Strategic Planner within the London Plan Team and Planning Technician. Alan's diverse professional background also includes teaching roles in mathematics and physics across various educational institutions and serving as a Senior Training Manager for an apprenticeship program. Academically, Alan holds a Master of Science in Urban Design and City Planning from UCL, a Master of Arts in Education from The University of Manchester, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Architectural Engineering from Cardiff University, alongside a research project at The University of Tokyo.
