Gareth Young

Gareth Young has a diverse and extensive background in public service and local government management, with current experience as the Assistant Director for Performance, Governance and Portfolio at the Greater London Authority since October 2025. Prior to this role, Gareth served as the Independent Chair of the Standards Committee at Spelthorne Borough Council and held multiple positions within the Department of Health and Social Care, including Programme Director for various significant reform initiatives. Previous roles also include leadership positions at the Infrastructure and Projects Authority and the Cabinet Office, where responsibilities encompassed project management, strategic advising, and managing public service delivery. Gareth co-founded the influential We Love Local Government blog and has experience in parliamentary research and local government projects. Educational credentials include a Post Graduate Diploma in Local Government Management from the University of Warwick and a Project Leadership Programme certification from Cranfield University.
