Michael Kelly has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Michael began their career at MT Hamm Ltd as a CAD Technician from 2000 to 2001. Michael then worked as a CAD Technician at Atkins from 2003 to 2005. From 2005 to 2008, they served as a Graduate Engineer at Martin Stockley Associates. In 2010, they joined the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) as a Civil Engineer, and over the years, they progressed to roles such as Engineering Manager and eventually became the Head of Engineering and Asset Management from 2015 to 2018. In 2018, their role was transferred to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, where they currently serve as the Head of Engineering and Asset Management - Waste and Resources.

Michael Kelly's education history begins with their completion of the Irish Leaving Certificate at Oaklands Community College - Edenderry in 1998. Michael then attended the Institute of Technology, Carlow from 1998 to 2000, where they obtained a National Certificate in Construction Studies with a focus on Architectural Graphics. In 2001 and 2002, they studied at the University of Liverpool, earning a Certificate in Higher Education in Architecture. From 2003 to 2006, Michael attended The University of Salford, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Civil Engineering. To further enhance their skills, they pursued Level 2 and 3 Certificates in 2D Computer Aided Design, specializing in AutoCAD, at Manchester College from 2009 to 2010.
