Lilian Macharia

Director, Portfolio Management at Green Climate Fund

Lilian Macharia has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several organizations and roles.

Lilian currently works at the Green Climate Fund, where they serve as the Director of the Division of Portfolio Management. Prior to this, they held the position of Head of the Office of Portfolio Management and Senior Program Management Specialist in the same organization.

Before joining the Green Climate Fund, Lilian worked at the African Development Bank for a significant part of their career. Lilian held various roles, including Principal Investment Officer, Principal Resource Mobilisation Officer, and Senior Investment Officer. In these positions, they were responsible for originating deals, developing strategic options for resource mobilisation, and providing support to financial intermediaries in Africa.

Earlier in their career, Lilian served as a Program Coordinator in the Financial Intermediation Division at the African Development Bank, Tunisia. Lilian played a crucial role in operationalizing guarantee programs for women entrepreneurs in Kenya and Cameroon.

Prior to that, they worked at the NEPAD Secretariat as a Program Facilitator, where they coordinated interactions with external development partners and formulated monitoring and reporting policies for donor priorities.

Lilian's career started at ITDG-PRACTICAL ACTION, where they served as a Projects Manager responsible for overseeing the transport program in the East African region. Lilian also worked at K-REP HOLDINGS LTD as a Senior Research Officer and Management Intern, where they designed micro-finance projects and gained valuable operational experience.

Throughout their career, Lilian has demonstrated strong leadership, financial expertise, and the ability to develop strategic initiatives.

Lilian Macharia obtained their MBA in Financial Management from Kenyatta University between 1996 and 1998. Lilian also obtained a certification on "Self Awareness, Authenticity, and Leadership" from LinkedIn in 2019.
