Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan Muthu, PhD in Environmental Life Cycle Assessment

Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan Muthu, PhD in Environmental Life Cycle Assessment, is currently employed as Chief Sustainability Officer at Green Story (2022). Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan also serves as Adjunct Professor at Vellore Institute of Technology (2022), Individual verifier- EPD at The International EPD System (2022), and Group Advisor for Sustainability at API - Asia Pacific Inspection Ltd (2022).

From 2018 to 2022, Dr Muthu was employed as Group Advisor for Sustainability and Head of Sustainability - SgT World (Worms Safety Group) at SgT Group. In this role, they set up the Sustainability Department and developed a range of services to cater to the need of Textiles & Clothing Sustainability. Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan was also an approved Higg FEM 3.0 Trainer, General Verifier and Chemical Specialist.

From 2018 to 2022, Dr Muthu was employed as Head of Sustainability- API (Asia-Pacific Inspection) (Worms Safety Group) at API - Asia Pacific Inspection Ltd. From 2017 to 2018, they served as Sustainability Manager at an European retailer, where they worked on the Detox programme and worked with all suppliers in Asia for Detox Risk Assessment, Capacity Building and Improvement Programme. Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan was also responsible for Supply Chain Mapping, Building of Chemical library, waste water testing, and phase out of hazardous chemicals in the supply chain in Asia.

From 2016 to 2017, Dr Muthu worked as International Chemical and Environmental Manager at a privately held family-owned clothing company based in Denmark. From 2011 to 2015, they were employed at SGS (HK) Limited, first as Environmental Services Manager- Asia, and then as Assistant Manager- Technical Services (Sustainability), Supply Chain Assessments & Solutions, and Global Sustainability Consultant. In these roles, they focused on Sustainable Apparel Coalition's Higg Index Service Development in Asian Countries, including Training/Coaching of Auditors and External Clients on Higg Index's Environmental Facility Module, Training and witnessing audits on Higg Index Score Verification, Coaching of the suppliers after the verification, Consultancy Projects to improve Higg Index Scores.

From 2015 to 2016, Dr Muthu was a Visiting lecturer- Design for Manufacture and Sustainability at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan Muthu has an extensive educational background in the field of Textile Technology. Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan completed a Diploma in Textile Technology from Rukmini Shanmugam Polytechnic in 1999, a B.Tech from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology in 2003, and a Master of Technology in Textile Technology from PSG College of Technology in 2005. Dr Subramanian Senthilkannan then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where their field of study included Eco-functional Textiles, Carbon and Eco-footprints, Life cycle assessment, and Shopping bags.
