Dr. Dom Zero is a globally recognized Cariology expert. He is Director of the Oral Health Research Institute and Professor of Cariology, Operative Dentistry & Dental Public Health at Indiana University School of Dentistry. For the past 20 years he has been a strong proponent of the early detection and non-invasive treatment of dental caries, the world’s most prevalent chronic disease. After receiving his dental degree from Georgetown University in 1975, Dom completed a general dentistry residency at the Eastman Dental Center and then a three-year research fellowship leading to a master’s degree from the University of Rochester in 1979. As a principal investigator, he has received numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health and over 140 industry sponsored grants. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters and over 200 abstracts. He is a past president of the Cariology Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research and member European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA) Advisory Board. He has served as chair of the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs and a member of the Dental Products Panel of the Food and Drug Administration’s Medical Devices Advisory Committee. He currently serves as a member of the ADA Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry’s Expert Panel for Clinical Practice Guidelines on Caries Management. He is a founding board member of the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) Foundation and the newly formed American Academy of Cariology.
