Daniel José Deza

Senior Director, Storytelling & Communications at GRID Alternatives

Daniel is originally from Anaheim and currently lives in Los Angeles. He is a first-generation Peruvian-American writer and communications specialist whose passion for storytelling is inspired by the intersection of Latinx, LGBTQ+, and our indigenous past. After graduating with a degree in Journalism from Northeastern University, he has written for The Boston Globe, Travel + Leisure, Narratively, and Random House Publishing, among others. He has produced TV segments for ABC News, History Channel, and The Food Network. Daniel also worked as a freelance journalist in Istanbul for three years covering LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, and travel. He comes to GRID from Bienestar Human Services, an organization focused on breaking down health disparities in the Latinx and LGBTQ+ communities in LA County. He has served in other communications positions at A New Way of Life, the LA LGBTQ+ Alliance, and the Aman LGBT Shelter. As GRID’s Senior Digital Content Manager, he looks forward to being a part of a greater team working together to bring environmental justice and equity through renewable energy. Daniel loves to do absolutely nothing at the beach, go camping, and has the biggest sweet tooth.
