Brendan Banfield, PhD, is the Co-Founder and CEO of GRIDSIGHT, a position they have held since June 2020. Brendan is also a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong, starting in September 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Software Developer at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) from August 2019 to May 2020. Brendan gained extensive experience as the Building Services Manager and Electrical Engineering Lead at Team UOW Australia | Desert Rose, where they led a team in designing and building the Desert Rose house that achieved 2nd place at the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018. Brendan was responsible for the design, installation, and testing of various energy systems, including solar PV and HVAC, as well as developing a custom building control and energy management system. Earlier in their career, Brendan worked as a Research Assistant and Lab Demonstrator at the University of Wollongong, and as an Undergraduate Electrical Engineer at ActewAGL, where they primarily focused on GIS software replacement and distribution management system implementation.
Brendan Banfield, PhD, holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Electrical Engineering, which they obtained from the University of Wollongong. Brendan pursued this degree from 2017 to 2021. Prior to that, from 2012 to 2016, Brendan completed their Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical as a Dean's Scholar at the same institution. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained the certification of KNX Basic Certified Technician from the KNX Association in November 2017.
