Hal Rice

Dr Hal Rice ( MBBS , FRANZCR ) obtained his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1992 followed by medical and surgical residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He completed his specialist training in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital from 1996 to 2000 before undertaking advanced specialist fellowship training in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at the Mt Sinai Medical Centre in New York City in 2001 and 2002.

Since returning to the Gold Coast in late 2002 Hal cofounded Qscan Radiology Clinics in 2007 which has now grown to be one of the largest comprehensive diagnostic Radiology practices in Australia employing over 1200 staff members. He has been an Executive Director and foundation Board member of Qscan Radiology Clinics and the Qscan Group until 2022. In 2002 Hal established the minimally invasive endovascular Interventional Neuroradiology Service at the Gold Coast Hospital which is now regarded as one of the premier sites in Australia and renown Internationally for the endovascular treatment of brain aneurysms and other life threatening vascular neurological conditions including acute major vessel stroke. The centre pioneers new advancements in the field including multiple clinical trials and first in human neurovascular device implantations. The service frequently engages with specialist doctors throughout the Asia pacific region for educational workshops and training in new technology and techniques. Hal has worked as a Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiologist at the Gold Coast University Hospital since 2002 and is the Founder and Director of the Interventional Neuroradiology service. He has also previously served as the Deputy Director of the Medical Imaging department at Gold Coast Hospital

Hal is an accomplished speaker frequently lecturing both locally and internationally. He is actively involved in teaching medical students, allied health professionals, radiology trainees and other medical specialists. He con iTunes to chair the annual Australian and New Zealand Interventional Neuroradiology audit conference since its commencement in 2009. Hal is a Neuroradiology Examiner for the RANZCR College Specialist Examinations. He was host of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) 13th world congress held on the Gold Coast in November 2015 with over 1200 delegates attending.
