Geospatial Analyst, Project Lead at Gro Intelligence

Bristol Powell has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. They are currently employed as a Geospatial Analyst at Gro Intelligence since August 2021. Prior to this, Bristol worked at the International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Earth Institute, Columbia University from 2014 to 2021. They held the positions of Staff Associate II and Senior Research Staff Assistant, where they focused on index insurance projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, utilizing remote sensing datasets. Bristol also played a key role in collaborating with NASA for a 4-year interdisciplinary science grant.

Before joining Columbia University, Bristol worked at Sigma Space as a Data Analyst - Associate from 2011 to 2014. They also served as a Summer Research Intern at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center during this time.

Continuing further back, Bristol worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan in the Currie Labs, School of Natural Resources & Environment from 2012 to 2014. They also gained experience as a Research Intern at Michigan Tech Research Institute, where they focused on SAR data processing, emissions calculations, and fuel bed classification.

In their early career, Bristol served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of Louisville from 2010 to 2012. They also had an internship at New Roots, Inc as a Senior Intern from 2009 to 2011.

Bristol Powell earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Environmental Informatics with a Graduate Certificate in African Studies from the University of Michigan. This was accomplished from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2012, Bristol obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Geography, Remote Sensing, and Environmental Analysis from the University of Louisville. In 2005 to 2006, Bristol attended Johnson & Wales University, focusing on Culinary Arts/Chef Training, although no degree was specified for this period.
