Art Lead at Groove Jones

Chris Holden has over 20 years of work experience in the field of art and design. Chris started their career as a Texture Artist at Level Infinity in 1997, where they created player textures for Quake II. Chris then worked as a Texture Artist at Team Evolve in the same year. In 1997, they became a Lead Artist at 4D Rulers Inc., where they designed textures, map objects, weapons skins, and environment objects for the PC FPS game, GORE. Chris also managed material files and assigned shader definitions and impact effects. After that, Holden worked as a Senior Artist at Jaleco Entertainment from 2002 to 2004.

In 2004, they joined Commgraphics as a Lead Designer, where they designed and built characters and levels for an educational adventure game called NanoLegends, aimed at teaching cellular biology to high school students. The game received the highest rating from the National Institute of Health. After their tenure at Commgraphics, Holden worked as a Contract Artist at NCsoft for a brief period in 2006.

From 2006 to 2009, Holden worked at EA Mythic. Chris started as a World Artist, creating environment assets for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Chris then became a World Art Lead, responsible for training an outsourced art studio in India in the technical aspects and Warhammer art style. Chris also managed the outsourcing of artwork to studios in India and China.

Holden later joined illFonic in 2009, where they served as an Art Lead for various projects, including AMD Tech Demo Ruby: Project Phoenix DX11 CryEngine 3 and Crysis 3 on multiple platforms. Chris designed levels, managed a team of artists, and focused on optimization. Their responsibilities included overseeing draw calls, level of detail distances, and triangle counts.

From 2013 to 2016, Holden worked as a World Artist at Freelance, handling world-building tasks. Currently, they are employed as an Art Lead at Groove Jones, a position they have held since 2016.

Chris Holden attended Greenville Technical College in 1997-1998 and studied Computer Programming. However, they moved on after completing the first semester, and it is unknown whether they obtained a degree or pursued any further studies.
