James Mather is an experienced law enforcement professional with a significant tenure at Thames Valley Police since March 2004, currently serving as T/Detective Chief Inspector in the Child Abuse Investigation Unit. Mather has held various leadership roles, including Force Lead for the Art & Antiquities Crime Cadre, and has extensive experience in hostage, crisis, and counter-terrorism negotiations. Previous positions include head of CID for Oxford City and multiple districts, as well as leadership roles in domestic abuse investigations, where Mather also chaired Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences. Before joining law enforcement, Mather worked as a Senior Recruitment Consultant at Hays. Mather holds a degree in Police Studies and Criminology from the University of Portsmouth.
