Joshua Avins, Ph.D.

Co-Founder and CTO at Ground Control

Joshua Avins, Ph.D. co-founded Voga Coffee in 2013 and currently serves as the CTO, leading the engineering and technology development efforts. At Voga Coffee, they work with teams around the world to revolutionize the way coffee is brewed. Prior to that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2011 to 2013, where they focused on identifying biomolecular catalysts that act as artificial proteases. This work aimed to facilitate the identification of proteins from complex mixtures, thus aiding proteomics. Before that, Joshua Avins was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia University from 2010 to 2011, where their research resolved contradictions in the literature about protein synthesis.

Joshua Avins, Ph.D., pursued their education in the field of Chemistry. Joshua completed their Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from The Johns Hopkins University from the years 2000 to 2004. Following their undergraduate studies, they enrolled at Columbia University, where they obtained their Ph.D. in Chemistry between 2004 and 2010.
