Rhydian Beynon-Davies

Head of Crop Optimisation at GrowUp Farms

Rhydian Beynon-Davies has a diverse work experience in the field of agriculture and horticulture research. Rhydian worked as the Head of Crop Optimisation at GrowUp Farms starting from 2020. Prior to this, they served as the Head of Novel Growing Systems at Stockbridge Technology Centre from 2018 to 2019.

In 2017, Rhydian joined G's as an R&D Manager, where they managed the development of indoor farming operations and conducted research at Harper Adams University on urban farming. Rhydian worked in this role until 2018.

Before joining G's, Rhydian held multiple roles at Stockbridge Technology Centre. Rhydian worked as a Project Manager from 2016 to 2017, overseeing the technical management of LED4CROPS facility and conducting trials in partnership with the UK tomato industry. Prior to this, they served as an Assistant Project Manager from 2014 to 2016, focusing on the LED protected crops lighting trial glasshouse and investigating expansion opportunities in enclosed farming systems.

Rhydian started their career as a PhD student at Lancaster University in 2012, where they conducted a study funded by the Horticultural Development Company on the influence of stock plant environment on cutting rooting characteristics. Rhydian completed their PhD in 2015.

Before pursuing their PhD, Rhydian worked as a Phd Researcher at Moulton College from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, they volunteered as a Warden at Flatholm Island in 2010 and worked as a Biology Teacher at Anglo European School from 2009 to 2010.

Rhydian Beynon-Davies began their education at The University of Edinburgh in 2003, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Science and completed their studies in 2007. Following this, in 2008, they attended the University of Exeter and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) specializing in Secondary Biology (Science), finishing in 2009. Building on their academic achievements, Rhydian then enrolled at Lancaster University in 2010, commencing their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Plant Ecophysiology. Rhydian successfully completed their PhD degree in 2014.
