John Saia

John Saia is the Chief Legal Officer at Guardant Health. Prior to Guardant Health, John was the SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at WageWorks from January 2019 to December 2019. At WageWorks, John was responsible for leading the fintech SaaS provider of consumer-directed benefits with more than 75,000 customers, including most of the Fortune 100, generating annual revenue of nearly $500 million supported by over 2,200 employees across six main office locations. John was recruited to turn around the legal and compliance functions following the announcement of a multiyear financial restatement. John reported to the CEO and redesigned the legal, corporate governance, intellectual property, compliance and related risk management functions by clarifying roles and responsibilities for each of the 20 professionals spread across four office locations. John was able to reduce outside counsel expense by more than 50% by both consolidating vendors down to five from more than a dozen, and by bringing routine legal and compliance support in-house. John resolved the multi-year financial restatement by filing of more than a dozen reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission in a period of four months, which once completed, more than doubled the company’s market capitalization. John successfully negotiated a sale of the company to HealthEquity, Inc. (NASDAQ: HQY) for approximately $2.2 billion, which included an accelerated market check with more than a dozen potential private and public company partners. Lastly, John led the litigation defense strategy for the dozens of derivative, class action and government investigations that stemmed from the financial restatement commenced in 2018.

John Saia earned their JD from The George Washington University Law School and their BS & BA in Political Science & Economics from Santa Clara University. John also completed an Executive Education Leadership Program at The Wharton School and a Leadership Graduate Program at the Global Institute for Leadership Development (GILD).

John Saia reports to Helmy Eltoukhy, Co-CEO. They work with Craig Eagle - Chief Medical Officer, Chris Freeman - Chief Commercial Officer, and Jennifer Higgins - VP, Public Affairs.
