Amanda Baker

Amanda Baker has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Amanda began their career as a Taekwondo Instructor at Cornell University in 2007, where they also worked as a PhD student, investigating the history of coseismic deformation in the Atacama Desert. During this time, they conducted field work, remote sensing, and surface dating analysis.

After their time at Cornell, Amanda worked as an Editorial Assistant at Frontiers in 2012 before transitioning to various roles within the company, including Journal Manager, Journal Group Coordinator, Program Manager, and Project Manager. Amanda held these positions until 2017, and during their time at Frontiers, they gained experience in project management and coordination.

In 2017, Amanda joined the Research Foundation for SUNY as a Project Manager, where they worked until 2019. Amanda then moved on to The State University of New York, where they initially served as an Assistant Program Reviewer from 2018 to 2019. In 2020, they became an Open Publishing Strategist, a role they held until 2021.

From 2014 to 2021, Amanda worked as a Science Writer for Scientific American on a freelance basis. During this time, they wrote articles on various scientific topics. In 2017, they also worked as a Science Writer and Editor for Smore Science.

In 2021, Amanda joined Suny Press as the Director of Marketing and Open Access/OER Publishing Strategy, a role they held until 2023. Currently, they are serving as the Operations Manager at Guilford Press.

Amanda Baker completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology, Psychology, and German at Bucknell University from 2003 to 2007. Amanda then pursued further education at Cornell University, where they earned their PhD in Geological Sciences from 2007 to 2012.
