Russell Forrest is an experienced municipal leader with a comprehensive background in urban and regional planning. Currently serving as the Town Manager for the Town of Vail, a position held since November 2022, Russell previously worked as the Assistant County Manager for Economic and Community Development for Gunnison County starting in August 2013 and as the City Manager for the City of Gunnison from August 2016 to November 2022. Earlier roles include Town Manager for the Town of Snowmass Village from 2007 to 2013 and Community Development Director for the Town of Vail from 1998 to 2007, where significant projects included the management of over $1 billion in private redevelopment. Russell holds a Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Gunnison County was created on March 9, 1877 and was named for John Williams Gunnison. The population was 15,324 as of the 2010 census. The county seat is the City of Gunnison.
