Arno Candel

CTO at H2O.ai

Arno Candel is currently the CTO at H2O.ai. Arno was previously a PhD student and graduate researcher at ETH Zurich from February 2002 to July 2005, where they designed and implemented a massively parallel (MPI/C++) distributed 3D particle-in-cell code based on the finite difference method. This enabled the solution of 1000x larger problems than with the leading commercial code. Arno also applied this code to the design of the SwissFEL project ($250M) at PSI. In addition to their research, they also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in computational physics and C++ programming.

After finishing their PhD, Candel worked as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Skytree, Inc. - The Machine Learning Company from January 2012 to December 2013. Arno then moved on to work as a Staff Scientist at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) from September 2005 to January 2012.

Arno Candel attended ETH Zurich for both their Masters and PhD, studying Physics and Computational Physics respectively.

Some individuals on their team include Venkatesh Yadav - VP, Engineering, Michal Malahlava - VP Engineering, and Tom Kraljevic - VP of Customer and Pre-Sales Engineering. Arno Candel reports to Sri Ambati, CEO, Co-Founder & Director. Some of their coworkers include Christian Woodward - Chief Revenue Officer, Read Maloney - SVP, Marketing, and Rod Hamlin - SVP, Cloud Alliances & Business Development.
