Vice President Of Philanthropy

Salary Range: $180,000-195,000/year DOE

The Vice President of Philanthropy (VPP) plays a critical and strategic leadership role in ensuring that Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco (HGSF) achieves its ambitious individual fundraising goals to support its mission. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive and secure major gifts, donor stewardship, and long-term donor engagement. The VPP oversees a team of three fundraising team members, ensuring a cohesive and results-driven approach to individual giving. In addition to managing their own portfolio of high-net-worth donors, the VPP provides strategic direction for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the VPP collaborates closely with leadership and the Fund Development team to craft compelling donor engagement initiatives and ensure fundraising success. This role requires a visionary, data-driven, and relationship-focused leader who can inspire both donors and team members to maximize philanthropic impact. 

Primary Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Execution (40%)

• Partner with the CDO to set annual and multi-year fundraising strategies and goals for the Individual Giving Department.
• Oversee and manage a team responsible for securing and growing strategic relationships with high-net-worth individual donors.
• Establish fundraising goals and performance metrics, ensuring alignment with organizational revenue needs.
• Partner with the MarCom team to craft compelling donor engagement initiatives, collateral to support fundraising campaigns.
• Partner with CEO and Board of Directors to support and develop sustaining relationships across high-net-worth families and individual supporters

Portfolio & Donor Relationship Management (35%)

• Serve as the primary relationship manager for a select portfolio of major donors, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding contributions of 25k-100K annually with a strong strategic focus on donor engagement and retention.
• Develop and oversee strategic engagement plans to inspire and guide donors in aligning their philanthropic goals with HGSF’s mission.
• Provide exceptional stewardship to a portfolio of existing donors, ensuring long-term engagement through personalized interactions and strategic touchpoints.
• Proactively research and identify new donor prospects, diligently working to cultivate relationships and convert them into active supporters of HGSF’s mission

Leadership & Team Development (20%)

• Lead, mentor, direct and support a team of Major Gifts Officers (MGOs) and Individual Giving Directors/Managers, providing clear fundraising objectives and professional development opportunities.
•  Foster a results-driven culture, ensuring team accountability in achieving revenue and donor retention goal in alignment with HGSF’s Strategic Plan and Organizational rocks.
• Partner with the CDO to build annual organizational fundraising goals and set an actionable plan for achieving them.
• Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Corporate and Community Partnerships to develop a strategic, high-impact plan that engages individual supporters who connect with HGSF through group and family involvement, fostering deeper philanthropic relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in individual fundraising and major gifts success in philanthropy.
• Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts and grants, including individual donations of up to $1M+
• Proven track record of effectively engaging high-net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations
• Comprehensive experience in all aspects of fundraising campaigns including strategy, donor research, outreach, messaging, budget management, and donor cultivation
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive donor proposals and presentations.
• Strong leadership and team management experience, with a history of mentoring high-performing fundraising teams.
• Expert knowledge of Bay Area philanthropy and affordable housing sector.
• Proficiency with CRM donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and fundraising analytics tools.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-level donor relationships simultaneously. 
• Must be able to travel within our tri-county territory (Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing capital campaigns and planned giving programs.
• Knowledge of best practices in high-touch stewardship and personalized donor cultivation.
