Alvina Ling began their work experience in 1999 as an Editorial Intern at Charlesbridge Publishing. In 1998, they worked as a Bookseller at Barnes & Noble. Alvina then joined Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in 1999 as an Executive Editorial Director, a role they held until 2014. In 2012, they became the Executive Editorial Director and Vice President, Editor-in-Chief at Hachette Book Group. In the same year, they also took on the role of Vice President, Editor-in-Chief at Little, Brown and Company. Ling currently holds the position of Vice President, Editor-in-Chief at Little, Brown and Company.

Alvina Ling completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Mass Communications at the University of California, Berkeley from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, they attended the Mandarin Training Center at National Taiwan Normal University for Mandarin training.
