Tanya Shannon

Mrs. Tanya Shannon, Deputy Director of Recovery, is an emergency management professional with 15 years of local, state, federal, private sector, and non-profit experience. Tanya serves as the Project Executive for local jurisdictions throughout the State of Florida and other areas in the southeast overseeing recoveries from multiple natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to joining Hagerty, Tanya served within Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance at headquarters where she helped establish FEMA Public Assistance (PA) program operations for 116 declared disasters nationwide between 2016 and 2018 by coordinating training and strategic planning support for FEMA and state/ territory field leadership. In this role, she managed a team of more than 70 FEMA PA instructors, embedded in field operations, providing training and technical assistance to FEMA professionals along with state/ territorial representatives and their eligible sub-recipients.

Prior to FEMA, Tanya served as a Program Coordinator for the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program at Florida State University (FSU), supporting the development and delivery of several academic courses, and provided training and exercise support for the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM). While at FSU, Tanya was the lead author and facilitator of FDEM’s first recovery-focused statewide hurricane exercise in 2015.

In addition to her emergency management response and recovery expertise, she is skilled in case management and immigration services. Tanya served as the Director of both the Survivors of Human Trafficking and Immigration Legal Services Programs for the United States (US) Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)-funded Opening Doors Inc. (ODI), where she developed the organization’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), conducted needs assessments, designed individual action plans, and supported clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
