Max Rolon

Max Rolon is the current Director of Engineering at Half Helix. Prior to that, they worked as the Senior Developer at Barrel from July 2014 to August 2019. In their role at Barrel, Max assisted in leading the development team alongside the Director of Technology. Together, they worked closely with all disciplines within the agency to ensure that projects were produced to a best-in-class level of quality.

Max's core requirements at Barrel included maintaining technical best practices and enforcing them across projects, reviewing project code from internal and external technical teams, leading weekly team meetings, acting as the technical lead across large project builds, developing and prototyping out solutions to a wide range of problems, participating in client acquisition activities alongside the partners, and communicating with Barrel’s clients on a daily basis. Max also served as a mentor to other team members, helping them grow their capabilities.

Skills that Max honed during their time at Barrel include expertise with PHP content management systems including WordPress and Laravel, expertise in robust Shopify+ builds (including custom apps and storefronts), expertise in OOP concepts, expertise in implementing database-driven, web-based applications (Relational and NoSQL), expert knowledge of source/version control platforms (Git, SVN), the ability to analyze business requirements quickly to assess feasibility and provide scope estimates, the ability to manage large scale technology projects successfully, and strong communication skills (both in person and in writing) while interacting with individuals with a range of technical understanding (from the laymen to the engineer).

Max Rolon completed a Bachelor of Design at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales. Max's field of study was graphic design and environmental design.

They work with Layth Farage - Director of Operations, Trey Hardin - Creative Director, and Courtney Kelly - Head of New Business. Max Rolon reports to Peter Humphrey, Founder & Executive Director. Some direct reports include KJ Chabra - Engineering Manager, Dan Hemerlein - Frontend Developer, and Geon George - Frontend Developer.
