Gayan Abeysundara has a diverse work experience spanning over 17 years. Gayan started their career as a Software Developer intern/co-op at the Department of National Defence in 2003, where they worked on ship detection and analysis applications. In 2005, they joined Agilent Technologies as a Software Developer, focusing on IP based network test products. There, they gained expertise in C/C++, multi-threaded host development, and GUI development. In 2010, Gayan joined Spirent Communications as a Senior Software Engineer, responsible for developing SaaS web applications for test solutions in virtualized and physical networks. Gayan worked in a fast-paced environment, utilizing Agile and Scrum processes. Currently, Gayan is a Lead Software Engineer at Hallmark Cards, where they are involved in developing microservices in Go (Golang) to support Hallmark's digital transformation. Gayan also deploys backend services in Docker containers on AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS), and incorporates Apache Kafka and AWS Simple Queue Service (SQS) for designing event-driven systems.

From 2000 to 2005, Gayan Abeysundara attended Carleton University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Computer Science degree, with a minor in Mathematics.
