Paula Southgate

Paula Southgate is an experienced local government leader currently serving as the Chairperson of the Metro Sector at Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) since November 2023. From October 2016, Paula has held multiple roles at Hamilton City Council, including Mayor, City Councillor, and Chair of the Upper North Island Strategic Advisory. Previously, Paula was an elected member and chair of the Community, Services and Environment committee at LGNZ from April 2016 to December 2020. Additionally, Paula served as Chairperson of the Waikato Regional Council from 2001 to 2016 and contributed to various committees, focusing on policy development and sustainability initiatives, including the HALO project aimed at enhancing local biodiversity. Paula holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and diplomas in Secondary Teaching and Guidance and Counselling from the University of Waikato.
