Karen Harr, P.E. ENV SP, AWAM has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and organizations. From 2002 to present, they have been with HRSD, where they have held various leadership positions including Chief of Condition Assessment, Chief of Interceptor Operations SS, Chief of Water Reuse, and Plant Manager. Prior to their time at HRSD, they worked as a Water Resource Manager for the City of Chesapeake from 1997 to 2002.
Karen Harr, P.E. ENV SP, AWAM, obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, where they studied from 1975 to 1980. In addition to their degree, they hold several certifications, including the Associate Water Asset Manager certification from the Buried Asset Management Institute - International, the Envision Sustainability Professional certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, the Professional Engineer License from the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Wastewater Works Operator License Class I from the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Waterworks Operator License Class I from the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Welcome. Since HRSD's inception, there has been one overriding mission -- to protect public health and the waters of Hampton Roads by treating wastewater effectively. HRSD returns treated effluent to nature in a way that will continue to nurture our water's delicate ecosystems. HRSD's workforce of scientists, engineers, water quality professionals and other staff know they must be sensitive to the needs of people and also be sensitive to the plants and animals who rely on our ability to protect their habitats.
