Markus Roupé

Director of Biology at Hansa Medical

Markus Roupé has extensive work experience in various research and development roles in the biopharmaceutical industry and academia. Markus is currently the Director of Biology at Hansa Biopharma AB (publ), where they lead a team of fifteen individuals from diverse scientific backgrounds. Markus is focused on innovation, discovery, and clinical research projects related to drug portfolio expansion and exploration of new clinical indications.

Prior to their current role, Markus worked as a Senior Scientist at Hansa Biopharma AB (publ), where they were part of a two-person team involved in the development of second and third generations of the imlifidase enzyme.

Before joining Hansa Biopharma AB (publ), Markus served as the Manager of Research and Development at NorInvent AB (publ).

In academia, Markus worked at Lund University as an Assistant Researcher and subsequently as a Wenner-Gren Postdoc Fellow in the Department of Infection Medicine. Their research focused on the interaction between the capsule of group A Streptococci and the CD44 receptor on macrophages and neutrophils.

Prior to their time at Lund University, Markus was a Wenner-Gren Postdoctoral Fellow at UC San Diego, where they studied FOXO transcription factors during wound healing and then transitioned to studying group A streptococcal virulence factors.

Markus completed their Ph.D. thesis at Lund University, where they studied epidermal reactions to injury and innate immune responses elicited by keratinocytes.

Additionally, Markus participated in the National Research School in Genomics and Bioinformatics, a collaboration between The University of Lund, Chalmers University of Technology, and the University of Gothemburg.

Markus also conducted their Master's thesis research at the Division of Matrixbiology, Lund University, where they studied the uptake of rhodamine-labeled heparan sulfate in human lung fibroblasts and its translocation to the nucleus.

Lastly, Markus participated in the Biomedical and Biomolecular Graduate Research School, a one-year pre-doctoral program, where they completed projects on novel sample-preparation techniques for MALDI MS and their Master's thesis project at the Division of Matrixbiology.

Markus Roupé completed their Masters in Biomedicine from Lund University from 2000 to 2004.
