HANWASH - Haiti National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Initiative

The HANWASH initiative is an inspiring and audacious multi-stakeholder effort to deliver safe and sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure and services for every household in Haiti. Our initial geographic focus has been determined in collaboration with the national water and sanitation authority (DINEPA) and includes the communes of Cavaillon, Croix-de-Bouquets, Ferrier, Léogâne, Les Cayes, Pignon, and Terre-Neuve which has a combined population of 800,000 people. Investments are first and foremost driven by the needs, priorities, and level of demand defined by local advocates and civil society groups in conversations with community leaders. Acting as an umbrella organization, we identify partners who can finance, design, build, and/or operate WASH systems and programs in urban or rural areas throughout Haiti. Our startup capital has been to a large extent based on the fund-raising and grant-based model of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and a network of private benefactors. Our core team is composed of a diverse group of smart, passionate, and experienced professionals primarily working pro bono / as volunteers and located throughout Haiti, USA, Canada, and other Caribbean countries. Listening and learning is a big part of our culture and we are actively recruiting new volunteers in areas such as marketing/communications, project design, monitoring & evaluation, and more. If you have the desire to get involved, please do not hesitate to reach out!
