Kushang Patel is a seasoned academic and researcher with extensive experience in the fields of epidemiology and preventive medicine. Currently serving as a Research Professor at the University of Washington since June 2012, Kushang Patel has held several positions including Research Associate Professor and Research Assistant Professor. Additionally, since September 2021, Kushang Patel has been the Research Core Director and Core Faculty at the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center. Prior to these roles, Kushang Patel was a Staff Scientist at the National Institutes of Health from July 2007 to May 2012. Educational qualifications include a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Epidemiology from the National Institute on Aging (2004 - 2007), a PhD in Preventive Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch (2000 - 2004), and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Tulane University (1996 - 1998).

Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center (HIPRC) is a worldwide leader in injury cause and prevention research. Founded in 1985, we are affiliated with the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. We are committed to public engagement and strive to partner with impacted communities in achieving injury prevention and health equity across the lifespan. HIPRC is a joint initiative of the University of Washington School of Medicine and Harborview Medical Center. It is also a CDC-funded Injury Research and Control Center, or ICRC. The ICRC network is funded by the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to find ways to prevent injury and violence. HIPRC is the only ICRC in the western half of the United States.
