Sebastian Drave

Sebastian Drave has extensive work experience in the field of data science and financial crime detection. Sebastian is currently the Head of Customer Solutions and Innovation at Harbr, where they leverage the EcoSystem Approach to help clients deliver meaningful business value through data networks. Additionally, they serve as the Product Owner of Syntheticr, a synthetic data product for high value use cases in Financial Crime, AML, and Compliance.

Before joining Harbr, Sebastian worked at HSBC where they held various roles. As a Senior Data Scientist in Financial Crime Threat Mitigation, they utilized a strategic technology platform and the data science team to develop future-facing financial crime detection capabilities. Sebastian'srole expanded to cover transaction monitoring optimization, risk assessments, and forensic analysis. Prior to this, Sebastian was a Data Scientist in the Financial Intelligence Unit, where they led the implementation of strategic solutions for financial crime investigations using advanced technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and Elastic Search.

Sebastian Drave completed a Master's Degree in Physics with Astronomy at the University of Southampton from 2005 to 2009. Sebastian then pursued a Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Astronomy at Harvard University from 2008 to 2009. Sebastian continued their education at the University of Southampton and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Astrophysics from 2009 to 2012.
