Russell Calkins has a diverse work experience in various roles in the film and media industry. Russell began their career as a Freelance Writer and Filmmaker, working as part of a crew from 2003 to 2009. In 2004, they also worked as a Guest Instructor at The Northwest Film Center, teaching lighting principles, camera design, and assisting in documentary workshops until 2008. From 2006 to 2007, Calkins served as a Technical Director at Public Media Works, where they maintained systems and worked on various projects as an IT, Director of Photography, Editor, Colorist, and Sound personnel.
In 2008, Calkins pursued their education and became a student at Columbia University, studying until 2010. Russell then joined MicrowaveDonuts in 2013, serving as the Director of Photography until 2015. Calkins then worked with Hillary for America as the Lead Cinematographer from 2015 to 2016.
In 2017, Calkins joined HardPin as the Head of Production, where they worked until 2019. In February 2019, they transitioned to the role of CTO and Partner at HardPin, a position that they currently hold.
