Stefan van der Merwe

Stefan van der Merwe is an experienced safety professional in the mining industry, currently serving as the Chief Safety Officer at Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited since January 2023. Prior to this role, Stefan was the Chief Safety Officer on the deepening project at Mponeng Mine and held positions at AngloGold Ashanti, including Acting Chief Safety Officer and Shift Boss for trackless development and stoping at various mines. Stefan's career began as a Learner Official Mining, with training at multiple sites and qualifications including a National Certificate in Rock Breaking Underground Hard Rock and other mining safety competencies. Education culminated in a Matric degree from High School Orkney.
