Dan White is a seasoned humanities writer and author with extensive experience in literary and educational fields. Currently serving as a Humanities Writer at the University of California, Santa Cruz since June 2022, Dan has also published notable works with Henry Holt & Company, including the paperback edition of "Under The Stars: How America Fell In Love With Camping," released in June 2017. Dan's literary contributions extend to HarperCollins, with the book "The Cactus Eaters: How I Lost My Mind and Almost Found Myself on the Pacific Crest Trail," published in 2008. As a self-employed writer and editor since July 2010, Dan has contributed to prominent publications such as the Washington Post and Outside. Previous roles include teaching writing at the Catamaran Literary Conference, serving as a Steinbeck Fellow and lecturer at San Jose State University, and instructing university writing at Columbia University. Dan holds an MFA in Non-Fiction from Columbia University and a BA in English from Wesleyan University.
