Mike Van Poots, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Mike currently serves as the Deputy Commander at the US Navy Reserves, where they oversee submarine force reserve personnel readiness. Prior to this, they worked at the Molson Coors Beverage Company as a Senior Manager in Technical Services, leading various manufacturing support areas. Mike also has experience as a paramedic and former Chief at the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Inc., as well as a paramedic instructor and program coordinator at Associates in Emergency Care, LLC. Additionally, they have served as a sworn patrol officer at the Harrisonburg Police Department and as the VA OEMS Education Coordinator and EMT Instructor at the VA Office of EMS. Furthermore, Mike Van Poots has held leadership positions, such as President and Member of the Board of Directors, at Spotswood Country Club Inc. Mike has also contributed to the US Navy, where they served as a Commander in the Office of Naval Research Reserve Component and in various roles at the US Navy Reserve and Commander. Notably, they hold a PhD in Applied Management and Decision Sciences from Walden University.

Driven by a continued passion for learning, Mike pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Applied Management & Decision Sciences at Walden University from 2005 to 2011. This advanced degree demonstrates their dedication to expanding their knowledge and expertise in the field. Additionally, in 2020, Mike achieved the International Specialty Board Certification in Flight Paramedic (FP-C), specializing in Paramedic education.
