Head Of Design at Hassell

Xavier De Kestelier has extensive work experience in the field of design and innovation. Xavier joined Hassell in 2021 as the Head of Design. Prior to that, they worked at Hassell Studio from 2017, holding the role of Head of Design Technology and Innovation. Xavier also served as the Director of Smartgeometry from 2010 onwards. In 2011, they became a Teaching Fellow at The Bartlett, University College London, where they worked until 2017. Before that, they worked as a Partner in the Specialist Modelling Group at Foster + Partners from 2000 to 2017. Xavier has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University from 2009 to 2011 and as a Professor at the University Gent from 2006 to 2010. Throughout their career, they have also been involved with Smartgeometry as a Tutor from 2005 to 2008.

Xavier De Kestelier pursued their education in a chronological manner. Xavier began by attending Atheneum Wispelberg from 1988 to 1993, although no specific degree or field of study was mentioned during this time. Afterwards, they enrolled at Ghent University from 1993 to 1999, where they earned a degree in Burgerlijk Ingenieur with a specialization in Architecture. Moving forward, Xavier pursued a Master of Science degree in Urban Design at UCL from 1999 to 2000.
