Tess Avis

Tess first joined Hawkins\Brown as a Part 1 assistant, returned after completing her master and has been with them ever since.

Tess completed both her degree and Part II Masters in Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, graduating with Distinction. For her master's project, she investigated and developed a strategy to improve the currently unsustainable and parasitic relationship between the cruise industry and the city, culminating in a large-scale masterplan to revolutionise the cruise industry in Copenhagen.

Tess is particularly interested in designing spaces for public use that can positively impact their everyday lives in cities, including both buildings and landscapes. Since joining Hawkins\Brown, Tess has worked on a wide variety of projects across all sectors and scales, from Tottenham Court Road Station Upgrade to Cambridge Children’s Hospital and the design of eight new public spaces along the river for the Thames Tideway Tunnel project.

With a passion for hand-drawing and sketching, she promotes this integral tool for communication and design development within their Analogue Studio at Hawkins\Brown.
