Jerel Nielsen has had a varied career in engineering and software development. Jerel began their career in 2013 as a Graduate Student at Utah State University and a Graduate Student Researcher at the Air Force Research Laboratory. In 2014, they worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the United States Air Force. In 2015, they became a Graduate Research Assistant at Brigham Young University, focusing on guidance, navigation, and control of small unmanned aircraft. In 2016 and 2018, they held internships as a Technical Analyst at the Missile and Space Intelligence Center, researching ATGM systems and foreign ballistic missile systems respectively. In 2019, they worked as an Advanced Engineer at Rincon Research Corporation and an Algorithm Software Developer at FLIR Systems. In 2021, they became a Computer Vision Engineer at Embark Trucks, developing navigation algorithms fusing onboard sensor data. Finally, they are currently a Staff Software Engineer, State Estimation at Hayden AI.
Jerel Nielsen attended Bridgerland Technical College from 2006 to 2007, where they obtained an Associate's degree in CAD/CADD Drafting and/or Design Technology/Technician. Jerel then attended Utah State University from 2010 to 2013, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jerel returned to Utah State University in 2013 and obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2014. In 2015, they began attending Brigham Young University and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Electrical Engineering in 2019.
