Sara Hawkins, PhD, RN, CPPS has a diverse work experience. Sara is currently working as a Market Director at HCA Mountain Division since May 2023. Prior to this, they worked as an Editor for Nurse Leaders of Idaho, where they were responsible for the peer-reviewed publication distributed to all registered and licensed nurses in Idaho. Sara also served as an Adjunct Professor at Idaho State University, focusing on the application of research in practice for DNP students. Sara's previous experience includes being the Director of Patient Safety & Risk at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where they worked to promote a culture of safety and eliminate avoidable harm. Sara also worked as a Faculty member and Nursing Department Chair at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where they played a key role in re-designing the program and achieving full accreditation status for the baccalaureate program. Additionally, Sara has worked as a Clinical Documentation Specialist and Nurse Manager at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, a Registered Nurse at University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, and an Intensive Care Nurse at Benefis Health System.

Sara Hawkins, PhD, RN, CPPS has an extensive and diverse education history. Sara began their academic journey at Montana State University-Bozeman, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from 1992 to 1995.

After gaining practical experience and a strong foundation in nursing, Sara pursued higher education at the Research College of Nursing from 2007 to 2009. During this time, they acquired a Master of Science degree in Executive Nurse Practice, further enhancing their expertise in the field.

Recognizing the importance of continuous learning and specialization, Sara enrolled at the University of Utah in 2012. Over the course of five years, from 2012 to 2017, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing. Additionally, during their time at the University of Utah, they earned a Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education, which they completed from 2012 to 2015.
