Thorsten Pauls

Thorsten Pauls has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Thorsten currently holds the position of Vorstandsmitglied (CFO) at HDI Group, specifically at HDI Deutschland AG. Thorsten is also a Vorstandsmitglied (CFO) at TARGO Versicherungen, LPV Versicherungen, neue leben Versicherungen, and Lifestyle Protection Versicherungen, all under HDI Group. From 2014 to 2022, they served as Chief Risk Officer at HDI Deutschland. Prior to their current roles, they worked as Leiter Quantitatives Risikomanagement und Risikoreporting and Aktuar, Projektleiter; Aktuarielles Controlling at HDI Deutschland.

Before joining HDI Group, Thorsten was employed at RheinLand Versicherungsgruppe as a Teamleiter focused on Bilanzierung, Planung und Risikomanagement. Thorsten also gained experience as a Wissenschaftlicher Angestellter at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, where they completed their Ph.D. in Resampling-Verfahren und ihre Anwendung in der nichtparametrischen Statistik. During their time there, they conducted various research projects, taught statistics-related courses, and provided student support.

Thorsten's early career saw him as a Werkstudent at Bayer in both 1995 and 1996. Thorsten also worked as an Aushilfe at Mazda Motors (Deutschland) GmbH in 1992.

Thorsten Pauls earned a Doctorate in Mathematical Statistics and Probability Theory (Dr. rer.-nat.) from the University of Düsseldorf, where they studied from 1999 to 2002. Prior to that, they received a Diploma in Mathematics from the same university, studying from 1992 to 1999. In addition, they hold certifications including Certified Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) and Aktuar (DAV) from the Deutsche Aktuarvereinigung e.V., obtained in 2013 and 2009 respectively.
