As a practicing primary care physician, health policy researcher and health systems innovator, Asaf Bitton focuses on the implementation and evaluation of new models of primary care delivery and payment structures nationally and globally. He is a Health Leads alum and has firsthand knowledge of the transformative effect of Health Leads work across the health care system.
Asaf is the Director of Primary Health Care at Ariadne Labs, a center for health systems innovation based at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He leads Ariadne Labs’ work on the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative, a joint effort with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization, and the World Bank that aims to better measure and improve primary care functions in low and middle income countries. He and his team have worked in Ghana, Estonia, Costa Rica, and China on these efforts. He also serves as a senior advisor to the Comprehensive Primary Care (CPC) Plus initiative led by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation – an 18 state multi-payer initiative in the United States that is working on matching payment reform to delivery improvement in primary care. Asaf is currently an assistant professor of medicine at the division of general medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and assistant professor of health care policy at the department of healthcare policy at Harvard Medical School.
