Michiel Schaap

Vice President, Research at HeartFlow

Michiel Schaap has a significant amount of work experience, primarily in the field of medical imaging and research. Michiel currently holds the position of Vice President, Research at HeartFlow, Inc, where they lead a team of researchers focusing on machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and computational fluid dynamics. Prior to this role, they served as the Senior Director, Research at HeartFlow, responsible for all research activities and academic collaborations. Michiel also held the position of Director, Imaging Science and Manager, Medical Image Analysis at HeartFlow, where they managed research teams and contributed to algorithm development. Before joining HeartFlow, Michiel worked as a Senior Medical Imaging Scientist at HeartFlow. In addition to their industry experience, they also served as an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London. Prior to their industry and academic positions, Michiel worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher and a PhD student at Erasmus MC. Michiel also gained research experience as a Research Intern at Vital Images, a Scientific Programmer at Utrecht University, and a Research Assistant/Scientific Programmer at Nedstat.

Michiel Schaap completed their education with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht in 2005. Michiel then pursued a Master's degree in Biomedical Image Sciences from Utrecht University, which they completed in 2006. Michiel later obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Image Analysis from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2010.
