Ruth Ann Gaines

Ruth Ann Gaines has a diverse background in education and public service, currently serving as a member of the Advisory Board at Pyramid Theatre Company since March 2016 and as a State Representative in the Iowa State Capitol since January 2010. In the legislative role, Gaines contributes to several committees, including Government Oversight, Education, Human Resources, Public Safety, and Veterans Affairs. With a career in education dating back to 1971, Gaines has held instructorships at Des Moines Area Community College and Heartland AEA, and served as a drama teacher at East High School until May 2011. Gaines holds a Master's degree in Dramatic Arts from UC Santa Barbara and a Bachelor's degree in Drama and Speech from Clarke University. Leadership Development has been furthered through programs like the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute and Leadership Iowa.
