De Wet Swanepoel has had a long and varied career in the field of audiology. De Wet began their career in 2003 as a Professor at the University of Pretoria. In 2009, they became an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. De Wet then moved to the University of Western Australia in 2011, where they took on the role of Adjunct Associate Professor. That same year, they also became a Visiting Professor at Örebro University. In 2013, they became a Senior Research Fellow at Ear Science Institute Australia. In 2016, they founded and became the Scientific Advisor of hearX Group, and also became President of the International Society of Audiology.
