Aruna Ranaweera has extensive experience in the energy industry, primarily focusing on transmission and interconnection roles. Aruna is currently the Vice President of Transmission & Interconnection at Hecate Energy LLC, a position they have held since February 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Director of Transmission & Interconnection at Hecate Energy LLC from February 2021 to June 2023.

Before joining Hecate Energy LLC, Aruna held various senior roles in the renewable energy sector. Aruna worked as a Senior Transmission Manager at RWE Renewables from October 2019 to February 2021. Prior to that, they served in the same capacity at E.ON from October 2016 to October 2019.

Aruna also has experience in transmission leadership roles. Aruna was the Director of Transmission at OCI Solar Power LLC from June 2012 to October 2016. Earlier in their career, they worked for the Midcontinent Independent System Operator in multiple capacities, including as an Advisor of Expansion Planning from November 2008 to July 2012, and as a Senior Economic Studies Engineer from November 2007 to December 2008. Aruna also worked as an Interconnection Planning Engineer and a Market Applications Engineer at the Midcontinent Independent System Operator from 2004 to 2007.

Furthermore, Aruna Ranaweera gained engineering experience at Orion Systems, Inc, where they worked as a Staff Engineer from March 2001 to January 2004. Aruna also served as a Senior Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa from March 1994 to February 2001.

In addition to their professional roles, Aruna was a member of the Board of Directors for the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association from 1997 to 2000. Overall, they bring a wealth of experience in transmission and interconnection to their current position as VP at Hecate Energy LLC.

Aruna Ranaweera has a strong educational background in Electrical Engineering. They pursued their undergraduate studies at the University of Moratuwa from 1981 to 1984, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with a focus on Electrical Power Engineering. Afterward, Aruna pursued higher education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where they obtained both a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from 1986 to 1994.
